Manchester City responded to Real Madrid's plan to sign Norwegian striker Erling Haaland in the summer of 2024.
Spanish reports recently claimed that Real Madrid is preparing huge funds to settle the deal in the summer after next, by activating the penalty clause in the Norwegian player's contract, which amounts to 200 million euros.
According to The Sun, Manchester City will move directly next summer to persuade Haaland to sign a new contract and give him the highest salary in the Premier League.
The current contract for Haaland expires in 2027, but Manchester City wants to extend it for another season, with the Norwegian striker's salary increasing from 375 to £500 a week.
Haaland's approval of the new contract would end news of his move to Real Madrid.
Sources close to Haaland said he was very happy at Manchester City but the English club was keen to send a strong message to Real Madrid through the new contract.
